I’m writing my regular weekly column today over at The Big Picture. And I’ve finally read enough takes, crunched enough numbers, and put sufficient time and emotional distance between November 5 and today that I have a data-backed assessment of what happened and what we should do in light of it.
Thank you Jay for keeping up the good fight. I know I’m still struggling and unable to stomach too much news these days. I’ve by no means given up, but I need some more time. So many of us are devastated, and I for one, am scared. Mostly, I’m numb. You’ve got a beautiful daughter now and I know that adds tremendously to your concern about the future of our nation. I’m not a parent, so I can only imagine. I’ve started to dip my toe back in, testing the water for sharks. And oh my, here comes a shiver of them - Marco, Gaetz, Hegseth, Gabbard, Miller, Noem. I could keep naming names, but the shiver of sharks is here. Jaws is real. I keep hearing the theme song. Blood is in the water. The blood of immigrants, LGBTQ+, women, minorities, “others”. I will not have blood on my hands.
That list of names you’ve cited will be prominent in your version of the Nuremberg trials eventually if they follow through on Trump’s plans for revenge. If they do horrible acts I hope to live to witness their trials because, Lordy, there will be tapes as well as victims.
"I honestly had a very different image in my head about what I actually would be writing about by now, and the world feels quite upside down. It’s proving challenging to..." ...do almost anything. Speaking for myself.
I wasn't expecting this at all. Talk about misreading the room. Thanks for your courage, because we've reached that point where we need to call it that.
Thank you for hanging in there with us Jay. Yes, the world feels off-kilter at this moment and I think we're all trying to reorientate ourselves. Your words have really helped.
Thank you Jay for everything you do for your followers. I know you are as heartbroken and worried as we are; yet you work hard to guide us through with solid info and calm wisdom. At first I didn’t think I CouId continue to “tune in” but you have helped me (and I know many others) so much. Thank you!!
Your analysis is one I look forward to substantiated with data and interpretation and often hope. I just added The Big Picture! Thanks for all of your efforts at keeping us informed.
Thank you, Jay for everything you do. You are much appreciated.

You speak for me exactly.

Thank you.
As Heather Cox Richardson said, the way out is through it. We will persevere.

Thank you for all you do.
I’m finding it difficult to stay engaged. Your work provides some comfort but I’m so disgusted with the mentality pervading this country right now
Thanks for "soldiering on." You are a huge help in this crazy time.
We got your back as long as you keep the Riley pictures coming. 🥰

Thank you Jay for helping me understand how personal traumas create grievance which can create delusion
