I saw something that struck me on this. People who are “good” weird don’t mind being called weird. They know they are outside the mainstream. People who are “bad” weird like Vance and Don Jr. hate being called weird because they see themselves as the center of society.

This cadre of counter-elites needs to get out more. It's now clear that releasing the document was a colossal mistake but it's worth sussing out why they did it. In my view....hubris. After years of marinating in the Heritage stew this definitively "weird" document didn't seem so to its creators. They thought publishing their coup plans would be met with what? acclaim? This cadre of counter-elites needs to get out more. But publishing the document did do one thing that presumably Mr. Vought and Mr. Roberts wanted: draw attention to themselves and thereby broke the cardinal rule of Trumpism: don't steal the spotlight from Il Duce.
